Grazing School of the West

GSW is a multidisciplinary nonprofit providing education, vocational training, and advocacy in ecological livestock grazing for land stewardship, wildfire prevention, climate resilience and adaptable food & fiber systems in the American West via online learning, in-person workshops and multi-day intensives in northern and southern California.

Shepherdess Holistic Hides

In collaboration with designer Laura Schoorl, we purvey tanned sheep hides mindfully sourced from producers in the American West with humane, ethical & ecologically-sound practices that are diverting waste streams from animal agriculture into the creations of beautiful heirloom additions to peoples lives.

Ojai Horse & Herd Network

We’re a fast-moving team of passionate animal folks based in Ojai, CA focused on supporting emergency evacuation efforts for animals with a focus on horses, sheep, goats.

The Compost Collective

In partnership with Rory’s Place - a restaurant in Ojai, CA, we created a closed circle nutrient cycling program diverting green waste from the restaurant to be processed and composted at Oak Heritage Ranch in Upper Ojai, the home of Shepherdess Land and Livestock.

Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council

Created in 2020 to promote wildfire safety in the Ojai Valley through education and action, Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council's Community Supported Grazing Program (CSGP) is guided by the approach of prescribed, targeted grazing of sheep, goats, and cattle for vegetation management and ecosystem enhancement projects in the Ojai Valley.

Senate Bill 675

Authored by Senator Limón, SB675 ensures improve support for prescribed grazing as an eligible wildfire mitigation strategy by updating CalFire’s Fire Prevention Grants Program.

Board of Forestry & Fire Range Management Advisory Committee Meeting (RMAC)

The Range Management Advisory Committee was statutorily created by Section 741 of the Public Resources Code of the State of California to advise the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, the Resources Agency, the California Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture on rangeland resource issues. California Range Management Advisory Committee
